Library

For Faculty & Staff

The Bailey Library provides many services to faculty and staff of WCC. See below for more information about these services.

Research Instruction Program

WCC Librarians work to promote information literacy by providing research instruction in conjunction with specific coursework for any class offered by the college. Preferably, instruction takes place in the library, but under certain circumstances will be offered at the class site.

During each session, the Librarians teach research strategies for our collections along with explanations of the online library catalog, research databases for articles in journals and newspapers, web evaluation, and other location tools in the Library as they apply to the library/research assignment given.

Blackboard Linking to E-Articles

Once you have identified an e-article from one of the Bailey Library's research databases, you may want to provide a direct link to that article on your Blackboard course site for students. To do so, simply follow these steps:

  1. Copy the durable URL of the e-article from the research database. It can usually be found at the bottom of the article. Do not confuse this with the URL address in the web browser's address box.

Example of a durable URL: http://go.galegroup.com/ps/i.do?&id=GALE%7CA250577369&v=2.1&u=lom_washtenawcc&it=r&p=AONE&sw=w
  2. Paste this durable URL to your Blackboard course site.
  3. Append the Library's proxy address, http://ezproxy.wccnet.edu/login?url= to the beginning of the e-article's durable URL.

    Resulting in: http://ezproxy.wccnet.edu/login?url=http://go.galegroup.com/ps/i.do?&id=GALE%7CA250577369&v=2.1&u=lom_washtenawcc&it=r&p=AONE&sw=w

The resulting URL is then ready for both on-campus and off-campus access by your students.

Library Liaisons to Academic Departments

The Library encourages faculty to make recommendations for new library materials. See the Library Liaisons to Academic Departments for a list of librarians and contact information for your discipline.
